Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB) Receives Accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for the Certified Specialty Pharmacist™ (CSP™) Credential

Tampa, FL, March 2, 2015 –The Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB) today announced that the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) granted accreditation to the Certified Specialty Pharmacist™ (CSP™) Program.

Specialty pharmacy is considered one of the fastest growing sectors of the pharmaceutical industry, gaining more visibility and more interest in the field. Specialty drugs are increasing in market share coupled with a rising percentage of health plan spending. As specialty pharmacy continues to grow rapidly, the demand for clear standards and guidelines continues to build.

The CSP credential is a key indicator to employers, manufacturers, patients, payers, other healthcare providers and the public at large that a professional is an expert in specialty pharmaceuticals. It demonstrates proficiency in specialty pharmacy management duties in a variety of practice settings.

As more pharmacy graduates enter the workforce, the CSP and other pharmacy certifications are going to make a difference in the job marketplace. “Accreditation will allow CSP to become more widely recognized as not only a job differentiator, but also as a company differentiator,” said Gary Rice, RPh, MS, MBA, CSP,  Vice President of Clinical Services for Diplomat Pharmacy, Inc. and past president of the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB).

SPCB works in partnership with qualified psychometric consultants to ensure the CSP examination is developed and maintained in a manner consistent with accepted psychometric testing practices and national accreditation standards for certification programs. The CSP examination is given during the months of April and October each year. The exam is offered through Comira test centers across the US.

The CSP program will be accredited for a five-year period, through February 28, 2020.
